Joy & remembrance
We hold grief and celebration together—turning a hard date into a hopeful one.
Fly A Haitian Kite Day is a worldwide kite-flying event that brings Haitian diaspora communities, friends of Haiti, and local partners together—under one sky, in one shared moment.
We fly to lift Haitian culture and community power into plain view—bold, beautiful, and undeniable.
4:53 PM is the symbolic moment we share together each year. It honors what was lost—and strengthens what must be built.

4:53 marks the moment the 2010 earthquake struck Haiti. We honor that moment together—then we turn it into action: connection, culture, and support for Haitian communities worldwide.

Fly A Haitian Kite Day is organized by the 11th Department, a platform and organization focused on building stronger Haitian diaspora ecosystems and supporting initiatives that create long-term community resilience.
The "11th Department" is how the Haitian diaspora is often described—Haiti has ten geographic departments, and the diaspora is the eleventh: a global community connected by heritage and hope.
We hold grief and celebration together—turning a hard date into a hopeful one.
Every fly site is built for all ages—kids, elders, neighbors, and newcomers.
One worldwide moment—powered by local partners who know their communities best.
